Creativity by seasons.
Following the flows of fashion, I develop seasonal work that manipulates the expectations and standards that are held within fine arts in an effort to support and define Mexican-American identity and the cultural hybridity that lies within contemporary life in the United States and Mexico. By utilizing thick applications of acrylic on large scale canvases, I intentionally emphasize gestural mark-making and expression to symbolize my cultural heritage and lived experience as a Mexican-American. By borrowing the accelerated pace of fashion cycles, I am able to investigate various themes of day-to-day life, examining how tradition and identity are intertwined with art and culture.

About the Artist
Working under the alias “StarStormTito”, my artwork is created through a blend of various influences: hip-hop, the digital world and growing up as a Mexican-American.
I strive to represent my culture in everything that I do. I focus on challenging artistic standards and techniques by experimenting with varying techniques, exploring varying themes and engaging in storytelling through a multicultural lens. Being from an underrepresented community, working in the arts provides me inspiration to continue using my practice for the enrichment of the cultures from which I stand.
